Swimming the English Channel

My Story

I got involved with Holt Youth Project about 3 years ago and I love the way it delivers really positive support and development to all the young people who engage with it. HYP covers a wide area across North Norfolk and has three distinct groups as well as a range of other activities such as holiday clubs, christmas bags and the positive choices program. The groups are young carers, the ACT group and the young mens group. The young people are given exceptional care and attention at an individual level as well as being given the opportunities to go on group outward bound expeditions and overnight residentials to help broaden horizons and develop confidence.

I am frequently asked why I decided to try to swim the English channel. I still don't have a very good answer. I see it as one of the greatest physical challenges that I could possibly complete. I wanted something that would test me to the limit and I have got to an age where if I don't do it soon I won't be able to! Some might describe that as a mid life crisis...

I had no idea that the training would prove as arduous as it is and I will be forever grateful to my long suffering wife Justina for the sacrifices she has made to enable me to take the time to do this. I hope I will live up to it.
